Player Development

What I coach.

Sessions are built around the technical details that create efficient, confident, game-ready players.

01

Skating Mechanics

Posture, knee and ankle bend, stride efficiency, balance, and body control.

02

Edges & Weight Transfer

Inside and outside edges, pressure control, transitions, and efficient weight movement.

03

Defensive Skating

Gap control, lateral movement, pivots, angling, recovery, and defending with your feet.

04

Puck Skills in Motion

Handling the puck without sacrificing skating posture, speed, or awareness.

05

Hockey IQ

Reading pressure, creating options, recognizing space, and making faster decisions.

06

Position-Specific Development

Especially for defensemen: retrievals, first passes, blue-line movement, and defending rushes.

About Brendan

Technical coaching with a player-first approach.

I’m Brendan Boyle, a Northern Virginia hockey coach, former collegiate defenseman, and the official Power Skating & Skills Coach for the Reston Raiders.

My coaching is centered around helping players understand how strong skating mechanics, body position, edge control, and decision-making fit together.

I want players to leave a session with more than a collection of drills. The goal is to build movement patterns and habits that hold up under pressure and carry directly into games.

“The goal is not just to complete a drill. The goal is to understand the movement, own the technique, and be able to use it when the game gets fast.”
